Portland is a fun city and a great place for people who love the great outdoors.
Named The City of Roses, Portland is the largest city in Oregon. It is laid back with 90 diverse neighborhoods, 250 parks, and is farsighted to managing growing.

A real Portland treat for us was the McMenanins theatres and brewpubs. These two brothers have bought back family fun (and adult fun) by renovating older buildings and offering beer and food while watching movies.
We saw movies at the St. Johns School and the Kennedy School, an elementary school turned into a bed and breakfast, brewpub, restaurant, and movie theaters (see photo).

The first day we toured downtown Portland visiting the Chinese Garden, Old Town District, Powell’s City of Books (a huge full city block bookstore - great to visit), and Portland's wonderful neighborhoods of Nob Hill and the Pearl District.
Portland’s large urban parks had even more appeal to us after seeing Forest Park and Washington Park where we visited Portland's spectacular International Rose Test Garden (hundreds of roses), the amazing Japanese Garden, Pittock Mansion, and the Hoyt Arboretum (miles of forested trails) - see photos.
Portland is on the Columbia River. About 50 miles to the east is majestic Mount Hood, which forms the beautiful backdrop for Portland's skyline. The city is noted for its scenic beauty, great outdoors environment, a large number of microbreweries, and its eco-friendly urban planning policies.
