Caribbean Cruise Day Bequia – St.
Vincent & the Grenadines (3/14/2018)
Quaint Town of Port Elizabeth - Bequia |
The small
Caribbean island of Bequia (only 7 square miles) is a unique cruise stop and
those who have a chance to do it will be well rewarded. Only small ships can
anchor alongside the yachts in Bequia’s main port at Admiralty Bay. From here you can explore the small but pretty town
of Port Elizabeth (see photo). English
is the native language and visitors will be treated with friendliness that is a
well-known characteristic for Bequians.
Unspoiled Princess Margaret Beach - Bequia |
Those
wanting a delightful Caribbean beach day
can head over to the secluded and unspoiled Princess Margaret Beach (so named because Princess Margaret once
swam there). It is a beautiful beach with plenty of shade available from trees
(see photo).
Snorkeling - Princess Margaret Beach - Bequia |
There is a nice snorkeling area to the far left right off Princess Margaret Beach out from the rocks (see photo). For reasonable prices, lounge chairs are
available for rent from local vendors who also sell beer and rum punch. In
2018, it was a $10 taxi ride south from town. You can also walk there in about
20 minutes along the Belmont Walkway
with a climb with stairs over a hill.
On Princess Margaret Beach there is a nice
restaurant beach bar called Jack’s where you can have lunch and
drinks looking out at the picturesque harbor and down the beautiful beach. Next
to Jack’s water taxis are available for the ride back to the pier.
Pretty Shops in Bequia's Port Elizabeth |
Bequia’s
main town of Port Elizabeth in
Admiralty Bay has shops mostly clustered along Front Street (see photo). Bequia’s
whaling heritage is on display in the museum.
Lobster Pizza at Macs |
A fun stop
in Bequia is for some lobster pizza at
Mac’s (see photo). Mac’s is located just a few minutes walk south of town
on Bequia’s harbor Belmont Walkway.
Turtle and
nature lovers will enjoy an interesting visit to the Old Hegg Turtle Sanctuary where they are raising endangered
Hawksbill sea turtles from birth to be released into the ocean.
