We visited Mazatlan for a day on a Holland America cruise. Twice we have enjoyed a wonderful Mexican beach day at an upscale all-inclusive resort. We choose the Hotel Playa Mazatlan in Mazatlán's Golden Zone and glad we did. An all inclusive day pass can be purchased at the resort for about $40/person and includes a very nice ocean view breakfast and lunch buffet, unlimited drinks starting at 11AM, ice cream, beach towels, use of shade palapas on the beautiful beach, and it 5 swimming pools. There is no loud music so you can enjoy the sound of waves. The service is excellent!

Mazatlan Beach Hotels

It’s a $15 taxi ride each way from the cruise port to Hotel Playa Mazatlan. On the way to the resort, ask the driver to take you along the Malecon to experience it. It is fun to experience a pulmonia (Mazatlan's open-air taxi). Make sure you leave plenty of time to return because traffic can get congested. There are lots of shops at the terminal to explore.

Old Mazatlán (Centro Mazatlán) for architecture and cultural history with plenty of restaurants, shops, art galleries, and interesting sights such as the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and Teatro Angela Peralta Opera House.

Mazatlan Malecon

Malecon beachfront walkway stretching 13 miles with statues, street performers, food vendors, ocean view restaurants and bars, and resorts connecting the Old Mazatlán historic center in the south to the Golden Zone in the north. The bulk of the hotel resorts can be found in the Golden Zone (Zone Dorada).

Other interesting sights include watching cliff divers, Plaza Machado, Pacifico beer brewery, and Mazatlán Aquarium (Acuario Mazatlán) - one of the best of its kind in Mexico. Things to do include ATV adventure, snorkel tour, city tour, catamaran boat ride, zip lining, and fishing.
