Niagara Falls is the largest most powerful waterfall in North America supplying 20% of the fresh water in America!

Niagara Falls is actually three falls, the largest (Horseshoe Falls) with 90% of the water is on the Canadian side. Both by day and night, we visited the smaller American and Bridal Veil Falls on the American side.

We took the world famous Maid of the Mist boat ride right up to the base of all three falls with exciting mist spraying in our faces.

Niagara Falls is created by the Niagara River that draws water from four of the five Great Lakes and flings it down 20 stories at the rate of 42 million gallons a minute.

While Wayne was busy taking photos, Pat had a special talk with the young park ranger and learned that Niagara Falls gets several suicides attempts a month (some successful).

We also visited the Niagara Falls IMAX Theatre seeing incredible reenacted stories of people in barrels that have gone over the falls and of a young boy who survived wearing a life vest.

Along the way to Niagara Falls, we dropped in for a visit at the Corning Glass Center - a beautiful showcase for the entire process and history of glass making.

We also stayed overnight near Times Square in New York City and had a great time.

Some information about Niagara Falls... Niagara Falls straddles the border between the USA and Canada with about 14 million visitors viewing it each year.

There are dozens of taller waterfalls in the world, but in terms of sheer water volume Niagara Falls are unbeatable.

Niagara Falls are very wide and more than 750,000 gallons of water plummet over the crest every second in high flow (June, July, & August).

The larger Horseshoe Falls are about 2,500 feet wide and drop about 167 feet. The American Falls are 1,060 feet wide with a maximum height of about 176 feet that varies because of the presence of giant boulders at its base.

Glaciers created Niagara Falls about 10,000 years ago at the same time the North American Great Lakes were created. The Niagara River drains four of the five Great Lakes before emptying into Lake Ontario.

  2. To me, the most important thing about Niagara Falls is that my parents honeymooned there! But I've never been, so thank you!
